City Implements Measures to Restore Water Pressure and Ensures Water Safety |
The City of Muskogee is actively addressing water service disruptions that began on September 10, 2025, following maintenance on the raw water line.
While the majority of residents have seen their water services restored, those in the Honor Heights area continue to experience low to no water pressure.
To resolve these issues, city crews are undertaking the following actions:
Bleeding air from fire hydrants: Systematic efforts are underway to eliminate air locks that can impede normal water flow.
Redirecting water flow: Temporary closure of valves in other parts of the city is being implemented to channel a larger water supply toward the Honor Heights water tower.
These measures are yielding positive results, with gradual improvements in water pressure anticipated as the system stabilizes.
City Manager Kendal Francis expressed appreciation for residents' patience, stating, "Our crews are working around the clock to restore full service as quickly as possible."
In light of the recent low-pressure incident, a precautionary boil advisory has been issued for the Muskogee Water Plant (Public Water Supply ID: OK 1021607).
Residents are advised to bring water to a full, rolling boil for at least one minute before use in drinking, food preparation, baby formula preparation, dishwashing, tooth brushing, ice making, wound care, and bathing infants who may ingest bath water.
Alternatively, bottled water or another acceptable water source may be used.
Routine sampling has confirmed that the water meets all required standards; however, in consultation with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) and out of an abundance of caution, the city is issuing this advisory.
This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
Residents with questions should contact Muskogee Public Works at (918) 684-6333 or visit the office at 301 S. Cherokee Street, Muskogee, OK 74403.
Further general information can be found on the DEQ website.
The City will continue to provide updates as progress is made.
In recent years, Muskogee has undertaken significant efforts to enhance its water infrastructure.
In 2023, the city received a $2,000,000 grant from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to improve the water system, including the replacement of aging raw water lines and the construction of a booster station.
These initiatives aim to prevent future service interruptions and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality water to all residents.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official city communications and to report any ongoing issues to the Muskogee Water Department.
The City appreciates the community's cooperation and understanding as it works diligently to resolve the current challenges and improve the overall water infrastructure. |
